ARTHUR SHIRLEY MISSING IN ACTION
Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Shirley received a telegram from the war department last Friday morning stating that their son, Arthur Shirley, had been reported missing in action since November 10. Arthur is a member of Co. A. 128 U.S. Inf.
This is the second message of this kind Mr. and Mrs. Shirley have received. On September 13th they received a similar one stating that their son, Charles, who is a member of Co. G. 55th. Inf. had been reported missing since August 6. Mr. Shirley took the matter up with the war department and on Oct 7. received the glad intelligence from the war department that Charles was on duty with his company on August 9th. Since then they have received letters from both the boys.
Mr. Shirley expects to ask the war department and the Red Cross to make further investigation concerning the young man. Their anxiety is somewhat relieved by the fact that Arthur was reported missing just the day before the signing of the armistice. Due to this fact they are very hopeful of soon gaining further knowledge concerning the young man.
Both Shirley boys are former members of Co. K. They enlisted in Blue Hill before the company was mustered into federal service and were with Co. K at Camp Cody, New Mexico. until the privates of that organization were sent as replacement troops to Camp Merritt and from there to France. There Charley was assigned to Co. A.
128th U.S. Inf., and Arthur to Co. G, 55th Inf.
